Advocacy is a specialised service providing support and information to people to help them promote their rights, help them to overcome discrimination and to enable them to participate in making informed decisions about their lives.
LAPD advocates work on a one-to-one basis with people (and especially those with disabilities) to ensure that their views are heard and put forward on their behalf.
Examples of areas of concern which have needed an input from us include:
Care package assessments
Being discharged from hospital care
Using complaints procedures
Living in sheltered/residential/nursing homes
Unfair discrimination (including contravention of the DDA/DEA)
Minority/Ethnic communities – and in particular those whose first language is not English.
